PrintPack field notes

Keep a download package manageable.

File dimensions, encoding quality and package count are separate constraints.

Check the destination before packing

Etsy's official digital-listing guide currently allows up to five files per listing and a maximum of 20 MB per file. Other platforms have their own rules. Check the current limit before preparing a collection.

A ZIP is a container, not a quality setting

JPEGs are already compressed. Wrapping them in a ZIP is useful for organization, but often saves little space. PrintPack uses an uncompressed ZIP container, so package size comes from the encoded images plus a small amount of metadata.

Use three separate checks

  1. Do the exported pixel dimensions meet the intended print size?
  2. Does each image still look acceptable at the chosen JPEG quality?
  3. Do both package size and total package count fit the destination?
PrintPack caps each ZIP at 19,000,000 bytes, including the buyer guide, reports and ZIP overhead. Prepare mode starts with a product per source; group artworks into sets and give each product its own sizes. Each product must fit at most five ZIPs; otherwise export stops with guidance. A batch can contain multiple independent products.

When a single image is too large

Reduce the short-edge target or choose a lower JPEG quality, then inspect the output. The tool stops if an individual file cannot fit one package; it does not silently lower quality to force a fit.

Every package contains a manifest and branded PDF and printable HTML buyer guide for that product, showing the exact image filename and the ZIP containing it. Only seller-entered sizes that passed the density check are promised in the guide. In Check existing files mode, all imported images belong to one product; non-image ZIP entries are reported as unverified and are not repackaged.
